Tommy Castro & the Painkillers

Blues, R&B/Soul
Often likened to Otis Redding's sound, Tommy Castro's music is a combination of soul-inflected rock with the occasional slow blues thrown into the mix. After being a member of several Bay Area cover bands, Castro has been leading his own bands since 1991. His release, "Exception to the Rule," won the 1997 Bay Area Music Award for Outstanding Blues Album. That same year he also took the award for Outstanding Blues Musician.

Chris Smither

Blues, Folk, Acoustic
Like John Hammond and a handful of other musicians whose careers began in the 1960s blues revival, guitarist, singer and songwriter Chris Smither can take pride in the fact that he's been there since the beginning. This self-described "one-man band to the bone" uses mostly his blues guitar and his foot tapping to create memorable blues sounds. Smither's 2012 album "Hundred Dollar Valentine" represents his past, present and future in music.
