Vatican II at 50: Toward a Dynamic Understanding of Conciliar Reception

As an ongoing process by which "the faithful" acknowledge that a church teaching or practice is a genuine expression of the Gospel and builds up the community's life of faith, "reception" is an essential element in the Catholic understanding of Tradition. Neither blind obedience, nor a matter of "the majority rules," this lecture will explore how a dynamic understanding of conciliar reception must involve dialogue, participation and even "re-invention."
