Huck Notari:
I grew up in the white mountains of New Hampshire. Quite a beautiful place. I lived there for some time and then caught a Greyhound one day out to Oregon. Big changes. Was hanging out with musicians and playing some open mics around. Wound up in New Orleans miming on Royal Street as Charlie Chaplin and then soon joined a country blues and ragtime band, the Kitchen Syncopators, that featured Gill Landry (now with Old Crow Medicine Show), Woody Pines (touring with his own band) and Felix… Show more Hatfield (of Oz st. Fossils and Cardboard Songsters).
Later, I wound up in Portland and began writing songs on guitar and piano and released my first album, Highland in 2007 and Very Long Dream in 2009. I am usually joined by Karin Nystrom (also with What Hearts), who sings and plays snare drum and Joel Shimmin, who plays a variety of guitars.
I've been playing around the Northwest for the past 5 years and have toured a bit in Ireland. Im workin on my third record currently and hope to release it in the spring of 2013.
Jenn Rawling & Basho Parks:
Jenn Rawling, songwriter/guitarist and vintage American folk and old-time country singer, joins masterful string player & harmony singer Basho Parks in a partnership of formidable musical talent and palpable sympathy. Rawling's playful, poetic lyrics are enhanced by her sophisticated sense of phrasing and pace. Parks' violin and viola support her message with compelling musical figures that echo and elaborate the meaning of each song. The duo's debut CD, Take The Air, is an emotionally rich recording which unfolds more gifts with each listen. They have been well-received at venues and festivals nationwide over the last year.
Jenn and Basho met in 2010 while contributing their talents to bands around Portland, Oregon. Discovering common loves and tribulations propelled them to become an inseparable team both on and offstage. Rawling composes highly melodic songs from fascinating scraps of phrases and images, singing them with an engaging yodel-edged alto. Parks sings harmony, but his "voice" is heard in the form of the his distinctive string-playing, which has a dusty, mournful quality revealing classical, mountain and bluegrass influences. For the last eight months the couple has toured extensively in the United States, covering some 20k miles in support of their debut album Take the Air. Tarantula Arms, their second full length album, is due to be released on the Waterbug record label in early March 2013.
